SALARY: R1, 568 991 per annum (all-inclusive remuneration package, of which a portion could be structured according to the individual’s needs)

REQUIREMENTS: Appropriate qualifications that allow registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist in a normal specialty or in recognized Sub-Specialty (Neurosurgery). HPCSA registration as Medical Specialist in a normal specialty or in a recognized sub-specialty (Neurosurgery). A minimum of 3 years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in a normal specialty or a recognized sub-specialty (Neurosurgery). Experience in research and teaching. Computer literacy (Ms Word, Ms Excel, and PowerPoint). Management experience. Higher degree in the Health Science (Master’s), other than the degree for specialization, would be an advantage. Experience in administration, finance, education, research and special interest or expertise in a branch of the specialty. Experience in the Public Sector will be an advantage. This experience should be in terms of clinical service provision, teaching, administration and research. Sound knowledge of Government Regulations, Policies and Acts. The ability to implement policies. Administrative and management knowledge. Project management skills. Teambuilding and people skills, as well as interpersonal relations. Communication skills (verbal and written) Organizational skills. Problem-solving and interventional skills. Highly motivated and enthusiastic to contribute to the Neurosurgery. The ability to work under pressure. Ability to lead transformational change in a complex environment. Ability to manage change in the department. Additional recognizable clinical and departmental administration plus qualifications / training in neurosurgery specialties will be an added advantage.

DUTIES: Provide excellent neurosurgery services to the community of Soweto and the neurosurgery areas. Provide outreach to the regional cluster hospital which is Leratong, Natalspruit and Sebokeng. Participate in the administration of the hospital and department of neurosurgeries at the University of Witwatersrand. Teach, trains qualify neurosurgeries for the country and beyond. Responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Stimulate appropriate research which can improve the lives of our citizens. To monitor and promote staff developments. Implement the vision and strategic plan of the hospital and University. Monitor and audit clinical outcomes. Maintain cordial relationship with the departments within the Hospital. Perform duties assigned by the Head of Department. Maintain assurance standards and other departmental policies. Contribute to Paediatric’s planning, budgeting and procurement processes as well as monitoring and evaluation. Management of personnel performance and review thereof. (Contracting, quarterly review and final assessment)

Questions after the interview:

At the end of an interview there is usually an opportunity where you can ask any questions you might have. This is a great opportunity to show the interviewer that you are interested in the position as well as the company. It is a good idea to prepare a few questions before the interview – this can be done while you are doing research on the company.

Your questions should show the interviewer that you are a good candidate for the position. Try and avoid questions that are based on your personal needs and preferences, for instance:

- How much leave will I get in a year?
- Will I be considered for promotion in my first year?
- When will I get an increase?
- What time can I leave in the afternoon?

These questions are inappropriate at this stage and will probably raise concerns on the side of the interviewer. Should you be the successful candidate then all these questions will be answered in your letter of appointment so don’t waste this opportunity by asking these basic questions.

If the position is an entry level job or very junior then you are welcome to ask questions in line with the position, for instance:

- Why did the previous person leave the position?
- What would the successful person be tasked to do in a typical day?
- How does this position fit into the department and / or company?
- Could you explain the company structure to me?
- Is there any further education assistance or support?

If the position is more senior then you can prepare question around the following themes:

- current issues that will face the successful candidate;
- inter-personal challenges in the department;
- any process, technology or people challenges that needs to be attended to urgently;
- key result areas that need urgent attention in the first few months;
