SALARY: R1, 254 957 per annum (all-inclusive remuneration package, of which a portion could be structured according to the individual’s needs)

REQUIREMENTS: Appropriate qualifications that allow registration with the Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in a normal specialty or in recognized Sub-Specialty. HPCSA registration as Medical Specialist in a normal specialty or in a recognized Sub-Specialty. Current registration with HPCSA. A minimum of 3 years appropriate experience in Paediatrics after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist or a recognized Sub-Specialty. This experience should be in terms of clinical service provision, teaching, administration and research. Computer literacy (Ms Word, Ms Excel, Ms PowerPoint). Sound knowledge of Government Regulations, Policies and Acts. Ability to implement policies. Administrative and management knowledge. Project management skills. Team building skills, people skills and interpersonal relations skills. Communication skills (verbal & written), organization skills, problem solving- and interventional skills. Must be highly motivated and enthusiastic to contribute to the Paediatrics care. Must ttbe able to work under pressure.
DUTIES: As head of a large general / specialized medical unit manage and provide leadership Provide supervision and training for Interns, Medical Officers and Registrars. Provide a comprehensive clinical service in Paediatrics. Participate in hospital, departmental and university committees. Active participation in administrative duties of the department. Participation in research. Management of staff performance and assessment within the department. Ensure the employment of the previously disadvantaged individuals in terms of race, gender and disability to enhance equity. Perform clinical specialist duties and patient care in Paediatrics. Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide effective patient care. Should be able to perform commuted overtime as per departmental requirement. Perform duties assigned by the Head of Department. Maintain assurance standards and other departmental policies. Contribute to Paediatric’s planning, budgeting and procurement processes as well as monitoring and evaluation. Management of personnel performance and review thereof. (Contracting, quarterly review and final assessment)

Questions after the interview:
At the end of an interview there is usually an opportunity where you can ask any questions you might have. This is a great opportunity to show the interviewer that you are interested in the position as well as the company. It is a good idea to prepare a few questions before the interview – this can be done while you are doing research on the company.
Your questions should show the interviewer that you are a good candidate for the position. Try and avoid questions that are based on your personal needs and preferences, for instance:
- How much leave will I get in a year?
- Will I be considered for promotion in my first year?
- When will I get an increase?
- What time can I leave in the afternoon?
These questions are inappropriate at this stage and will probably raise concerns on the side of the interviewer. Should you be the successful candidate then all these questions will be answered in your letter of appointment so don’t waste this opportunity by asking these basic questions.
If the position is an entry level job or very junior then you are welcome to ask questions in line with the position, for instance:
- Why did the previous person leave the position?
- What would the successful person be tasked to do in a typical day?
- How does this position fit into the department and / or company?
- Could you explain the company structure to me?
- Is there any further education assistance or support?
If the position is more senior then you can prepare question around the following themes:
- current issues that will face the successful candidate;
- inter-personal challenges in the department;
- any process, technology or people challenges that needs to be attended to urgently;
- key result areas that need urgent attention in the first few months;
